Description

Why won't my over-developed character leave me alone? I swear, she makes me feel like I'm schizophrenic. She has once again hassled me into paining her portrait. And I fear there are portraits of the rest of the gang on the way.

In any case, I am still new to digital painting, and I'll be the first to admit that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Everytime I sit dow to work on a painting, it's a great big adventure, for I have no idea what is going to come out. So see that little critique box? Please rip me to shreds on my technique if you feel like it, and let me know how I can do better! I WANT to learn, so let me know any thing I can do to improve please! And for those of you who don't have subscriptions, and can't use the critique box ( how dumb is that?) please feel free to shred my work in a comment. :)

Anyway, here she is.....again. Done in photoshop in about 8 hours. Textures from [link]

To be honest, I'm not necessarily the best at digital painting myself. I'll only point out the areas you may want to focus on most, but I'm sorry I won't be able to refernece any specific techniques :<

First of all, you did a great job with the shading of the face and neck; the colors transition smoothly without the cost of looking muddy. The only thing I would suggest here is that you define the chin a bit more by perhaps making the area of the neck beneath it darker. Another thing is to add some shading even to the tattoo on her neck to give it even more dimension and the illusion that it wraps around her neck. Also, on an entirely different shading note, you could try adding some shadow under her nose to make that pop out.

You also added some nice shading and darker tones to her hair. However, the ends of each lock of hair look a little dense; I would fix that by going in with a smaller brush and drawing long, quick strokes at the ends to make the hair look wispier. Don't worry too much about shaping the hair perfectly and allow for a stray line here or there wherever it looks okay to make her hair more realistic.

Otherwise, I think you did a great job! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" /> I love the way you did her eyes, they're so bright and full of life. You did great with the eyebrows, too; actually drawing them out hair for hair instead of as solid lines. And I love your use of textures in her clothes!
